Assassination Classroom Vol. 1

When Koro Sensei destroys the moon, the Ministry of Defence takes action. But when an unknown creature can fly at Mach 20 and destroy the moon, it is near impossible. So when he wants to be a teacher and teach the rejects of Class 3-E, he brings humour, resilience, and a can-do attitude — all while they are trying to kill him.

What I liked

• The whole setup is ridiculous in the best way. A super-powered yellow octopus-thing as your homeroom teacher? Sold.
• Class 3-E feels like real outcasts who might actually get somewhere.
• It is genuinely funny. I found it so funny when on the back page it said: “Ever caught yourself screaming, I could kill that teacher?”

What I didn’t like

• 12+ for a reason — violence and stuff about how to sort of make a gun. Check with a parent first.

Verdict

Perfect 5 paws across the board. Funny, fast, and I want the next volume immediately.
